Founded in the 1950's, the city of Carefree is located just North and West of Scottsdale and East of Cave Creek and is home to about 3,000 residents (in the Winter that is). We are often characterized by it's charming small town feel, unique shopping fronts, quaint street names (like "Nevermind Trail" and "Easy Street") and gorgeous mountain, desert and boulder views, and did we mention the weather? When you arrive in Carefree you can't help but relax and enjoy the serenity of the Sonoran desert.

While most people come to Carefree to relax and escape the fast paced life we all seem to live, there are plenty of things to do if you'd like to be out and about. With our gorgeous climate we can enjoy various activities such as hiking, golfing, tennis, horseback riding, shopping, dining, meandering through our art galleries, attending concerts at El Pedregal and more. We're also a hop, skip, and a jump from our neighbors in Scottsdale and Phoenix if you want to catch a professional sports game or cultural event downtown or even take an afternoon and splash around in the water in Bartlett Lake, just 17 miles east of Carefree! As you can see, it's easy to feel you're on a permanent vacation when you call Carefree your home!
